3 things

What if you could change some of the ways in which our country does business.

Now I don't mean a major reworking of every aspect of government (although I'd sure like to do that) but rather what are some REALISTIC...non partisan...ideas that could make a real difference?

There are 3 things that seem OBVIOUS to me and yet I never hear them discussed on any serious level.

3 things I never hear politicians talk about that could make a MAJOR change in our country.

1. A new czar appointment;

Since we now live in the era of "Health czars","Economic Czars" and "Energy Czars" how about an army of"expenditure and accounting" Czars who oversee exactly where every dime of tax money goes at EVERY level of government?

I suggest that if there were such oversight at every level of government we could put an end to the era of parks departments, transportation divisions and military offices intentionally spending every last dime of their budget...even when they don't NEED to...in order to justify asking for the same amount of money (and then some) the next year.

Most of us are shocked when we hear that $3 million has been given to gamers to play video games or that $35 million has been paid out by Medicare to 118 "phantom" medical clinics that never existed but why should we be?

Most companies make someone account for every $10 that leaves the petty cash box yet I have NO idea where much of the money I pay in taxes goes or who approves most of the spending.

We could see an end to the era of irresponsible & absurd expenditures and the money saved could be moved into programs that actually work for the American people.

Oh yeah, and THIS czar would make all of the OTHER "czars" justify their own paychecks!

2. SLASH foreign aid.

It's simple;
We no longer give a penny to ANY country which is run by a dictator, deprives it's people of their basic human rights or takes consistently anti-democracy anti-US positions.

And as far as giving aid to our "friends" goes, we expect full repayment with interest.
A country doesn't have money to pay it's debts to the US back?
Fine.
We'll take an IOU for now but we WILL expect repayment be it in cash or usable resources.
Oil? Lumber? Udon Noodles?
We'll take 'em.

There is, in my estimation, something very wrong about pouring billions of dollars into the coffers of madmen who hate us while telling our own veterans and senior citizens that there's not enough money to take care of them when they truly need it.

3. End one specific opportunity for employment;
Term limits at EVERY level of government.

Public "servants" should not be able to make a career of sitting in a cushy seat for decades and then retire with a guaranteed 80% of their wages.

Most people have no clue as to who their state senators are or what they do.
You know why?
Because most of them do NOTHING in hopes that if they don't rock the boat and can smile and shake enough hands at election time that they'll be able to coast through life and then retire like a king.

End it.
Let more citizens have the opportunity to serve in public office with the same attitude that jurors should have;
Do as good of a job as possible and then get out and back to real life.

Every Democrat, Republican and Libertarian I know is more trustworthy, in my opinion, than anyone who would actually WANT to be a career politician.

As a matter of fact, it seems to me that the very fact that one would want to be a career politician in the first place should disqualify them from holding any such position!

So there you have it.

Sure, I know everyone on every side will want to pelt me with rocks and garbage but I believe that these are the types of considerations that should be at the top of the list for discussion and the fact that they are NOT is exactly why we are where we are.

But then again, hey...that's just ME!

Good one. I'd also suggest that the citizens of each state vote on the salary their elected representatives earn.
Pick a number, $30K, $50K, $75K, whatever. But it should be up to the people. It's insane that some legislators can set their own salaries.
